Getting Started

Braces: The First Appointment

The consultation or first visit is the first step. You want to find out more about your teeth and smile and we’re here to give you that information. This really is an easy appointment – just talking and looking. And then you tell us where you’d like to go next.

You’ll sit in a very comfy chair – not a dental chair and I look at your smile, your teeth and your jaws. We answer your questions. Talk about your goals for treatment and what braces can do for you.

We can take an x-ray to show us the picture under your gums or get that from your dentist – but we can tell you a lot without that x-ray.

I’ll give you the options in braces, clear aligners, and orthodontic treatment to guide you to what’s best for you.

Now you may be eager to start as soon as possible. You’ll need a checkup and cleaning from your dentist if you haven’t had that recently.

Or you may want to find out what your insurance coverage will be. We can give you the fees and start that paperwork so you know everything before you get started.

Or you may need to think about what you’d like to do.

At this appointment we’ll give you the information for you to make the best plan for you and your smile – what makes the most sense for you.

Now if you’re younger and not ready for braces, we’ll setup up a recall checkup so we can watch your teeth and smile develop as you grow. That could be in 6, 9 or 12 months, depending upon your age and what your teeth are up to.

You never have to wait for that next appointment though. If you or your dentist have any questions before that, we’re happy to see you sooner to check on things for you.
